It has been a crazy fall so far this year. Not only has it been incredibly warm, but we have also had a good amount of rain from Thanksgiving. The water has dropped a good amount since that rain but it is still at good height. The stain has left the river and is now starting to look pretty clear, but could be short lived. This weekend it looks like we are going to get more rain which should bring the water left up and dirty it up a little bit more.
Steelhead fishing has been pretty steady throughout the last couple weeks. They seemed to be spread through out the whole river system. The upper river section is a little slower then the middle and lower sections this past week for steelhead. However, we are still catching a good amount of trout in the upper section. Indicator fishing has been very productive lately. We have been fishing with a lot of egg patterns, pheasant tails, prince, caddis, and stone flies. The best color eggs seem to be: McCheese glo bug, Chartreuse core with McCheese vail nuke egg, Watermelon core with white vail nuke egg (which works better when water is clear), and steelhead orange core with a steelhead orange vail.
Streamer fishing has been very good over the last couple weeks as well. We have been rolling a good number of browns of all sizes and some steelhead. If you are looking to cast all day and see a fish attack your fly like a shark attacking a seal, this is the game for you. As long as the weather stays warmer this method of fishing should continue to put fish to hand. All different colors have been working well. We have been fishing a lot of black/copper when it is darker and a lot of yellow when the sun comes out. I have been fishing full sinking lines with non weighted flies. When I checked the water temperature earlier this week it was 42 degrees and with our future weather it should get better. So the temperatures should be up maybe another degree or two; which, should make it even better. I still have some dates left before Christmas, so give me a call if you want to spend a day indicator fishing and or a day or streamer fishing.
Tight Lines, Be Safe and Happy Holidays.
