River Report 11/5/15

The time has come folks, “Fall Steelhead” have entered the Pere Marquette River. This week has been full of exciting steelhead fishing with the beautiful warm weather and higher water. The fish are now swimming up the river in decent numbers and more fish should continue to come up with the rain on the way.

The best technique right now has been egg fishing under an indicator. We have been doing well on McChesse eggs, grapefruit color eggs, orange eggs, and chartreuse eggs. Black and purple stones flies have also been putting some steelhead and trout in the boat as well.   The swing game has also been producing some big, hot fish. Darker color streamers are working on the darker days, and bright color, flashy streamers on sunny days.

If you are into the trout game streamer fishing has been working well the last few days with higher dirty water. The brown trout are looking for a little harder meal after the spawn, so strip your streamers at a medium to slow rate. The best streamer colors have been yellow, white, and olive. With warmer temperatures, steelhead are on the look out for a stripped fly; which is always a huge rush to see a big chrome bullet attack your fly.  I still have some prime November dates open, give me a call for more details.
